Visa Procedure:

The funds to show for New Zealand visa are as given below:

Tuition Fees of NZ$ 40,000

Travel Expenses to NZ of NZ$ 2,000

Living Expenses for 18 months is NZ$ 30,000.

Total funds for visa if we add up the above would-be NZ$ 72,000.

At 1 NZ$ = 52 INR, the show money for visa is INR 37.50 Lakhs.

Money for the NZ student visa can be shown as below:

Cash in account

Fixed Deposit

Educational Loan

Personal Loan

Loan against property / insurance policies, etc.

Gold loan and car loan are not accepted for visa purpose as the visa officer can’t verify the authenticity of such loans.

You can also show money of your parents and own brother / sister (not of uncle / aunts / cousin, etc, as that will not be accepted by the visa officer). Parents and siblings will need to show their source of income through bank statements, salary slips, income tax returns, pension documents, etc.

Any unaccounted money or sudden reflection of large money inconsistent with your past financial records will likely lead to a visa refusal. Should your visa be refused, you can always re-apply by submitting proper financial documents.

New Zealand visa office is extremely watchful of the source of money you have shown to generate funds for your student visa. This is because NZ only wants those students to come to NZ who can show a clean income source. Not only must you have the requisite money, but you should also be able to show that money has been generated through genuine bonafide source of income. Hence, it is advisable for a student to opt for an educational loan rather than arrange money by borrowing from various sources and trying to show it as genuine source of income of parents and / or siblings.

Any gaps that you may have between studies, employment, etc, also needs to be explained with documentary evidence as they are potential visa refusal reasons.

If your spouse wishes to accompany you, she will need to show NZ$ 2,000 for travel expenses and NZ$ 6,300 for living expenses for 18 months. This amount may get revised much higher as it has not been changed for many years now.

As you are studying a Level 9 course, your spouse can work full time during your 18 months of study and during the 3 years of post-study work visa.

We will assist you with your student visa and spouse (partner of student) visa applications.

Total Expenses:

If going alone:

Course Fees NZ$ 40,000

Flight ticket NZ$ 2,000

Visa Fees NZ$ 430

Medical test NZ$40

IELTS Academic NZ$ 330

Food & Accommodation: NZ$ 1,100 per month for 18 months is NZ$ 19,800

Miscellaneous: NZ $2,000

Total: NZ$ 64,600 (approx. 33.60 L at 1 NZ$ = 52 INR)

If going with wife, additional expenses:

Flight: NZ$ 2,000

Medical: NZ$ 40

Living Expenses: NZ$ 400 per month for 18 months is NZ$ 7,200

Medical Insurance: NZ $3,000

Miscellaneous: NZ$ 2,000

Total extra cost: NZ$ 14,240 (approx. 7.40 Lakhs INR if NZ$ = 52 INR)

Total expenses for couple to NZ will be NZ$ 78,840 (approx. 41 Lakhs INR if NZ$ = 52 INR).

Working part-time/full-time in New Zealand:

Student applicant will be allowed to work part-time in NZ during course period and full-time during vacations like Christmas. The minimum pay rate in NZ is Z$ 23.15 per hour (from 1 April 2014). You can work up to 20 hours per week part-time during term-time and full-time during vacation.

Let us say a student worked 17 months part-time in NZ out of 18 months of course duration and the spouse worked full time for 17 months during the study course period. We will now calculate the total earnings at minimum pay. If you work night shifts and weekends, you may expect to earn 5 – 10% higher than the minimum pay rate.

▪ Student:

NZ$ 23.15 x 20 hrs/wk. x 4 wk./month x 17 = NZ$ 31,484 (approx. 16.40 Lakhs at NZ$ = 52 INR).

▪ Spouse:

NZ$ 23.15 x 50 hrs/wk. x 4 wk./month x 17 = NZ$ 78,710 (approx. 41 Lakhs INR at NZ$ = 52 INR).

Net expenses if travelling alone and working part-time in NZ or if travelling with spouse who is working full time at minimum pay rate in NZ are as given below:

▪ Travelling alone:

NZ$ 33,116 (approx. 17.20 Lakhs INR at NZ$ = 52 NR)

▪ Travelling with Spouse:

NZ$ 31,354 (savings) i.e., you recover all your costs and save this money (approx. 16.30 Lakhs INR at NZ$ = 52 INR).

Yes, you will pay some taxes but that will be adjusted because we have taken the minimum pay rate whilst you may be earning 10% higher on working weekends / night-shifts, the student applicant will be working full time during vacations which we have not factored in and months have 30 – 31 days whilst we have calculated earnings for only 28 days every month.

Post-Study Work (PSW) Visa:

You should apply for your 3 years PSW visa after you have successfully passed the Level 9 course.

The PSW visa can be applied online. Link for the same is given below:

NZ qualification pass certificate

NZ$ 4,200 funds available in your bank account (amount may be revised upward). You need to check the link provided above for any updates from the NZ govt.

As per licensed LIA’s, the following may be a possible option for PR for seafarers / other professionals looking to take the study + PSW + skilled employment route to PR in NZ:

A seafarer / professional in the age group of 25 – 50 years who does the Level 9 MA Management course will likely get 5 points for qualification. To score the minimum 6 points, he will need to work in a skilled job (as per ANZSCO list) with an accredited employer in NZ for minimum of 1 year and get paid above the median wage i.e., NZ$30 or higher.

Once you get a PSW visa in NZ, you should approach a licensed LIA advisor in NZ on the best route for you to obtain PR. Also, before taking up a skilled job in NZ, have your job offer letter vetted by a LIA (licensed immigration advisor) in NZ as to whether working in that job for 1 year will get you the additional one point to get the requisite 6 points for PR.

We look after admissions & visas only. We are not a NZ govt. authorised LIA.

Once you get your PSW visa in NZ, we will introduce you to NZ govt. approved LIA to assist with PR application.

If you wish to apply for the MA Management Level 9 course at NMIT, please do revert. Should you have any queries, please do let us know.
